गुवाहाटीएनआईए कोर्ट ने असम सरकार को तगड़ा झटका देते हुए विधायक अखिल गोगोई () को सभी आरोपों से बरी कर दिया है। दिसंबर 2019 में नागरिकता संशोधन अधिनियम (सीएए) के खिलाफ हुए हिंसक प्रदर्शनों में कथित भूमिका के लिए अखिल गोगोई और उनके साथियों को स्पेशल एनआईए कोर्ट ने बरी कर दिया। कोर्ट का यह फैसला यूएपीए के तहत दर्ज आरोपों में जेल में बंद लोगों के लिए उदाहरण का काम कर सकता है। कोर्ट ने कहा, बंद की बात करना आतंकी कृत्य नहीं एनआईए कोर्ट ने कहा कि इस बात का कोई संकेत नहीं है कि बंद की बात करने से देश की आर्थिक सुरक्षा को खतरा पैदा हुआ या यह एक आतंकवादी कृत्य था। गोगोई करीब 19 महीने तक जेल में रहने के बाद गुरुवार को रिहा हुए। शिवसागर विधानसभा सीट से निर्दलीय विधायक गोगोई को विशेष एनआईए अदालत के आदेश के बाद गौहाटी मेडिकल कॉलेज और अस्पताल (जीएमसीएच) से रिहा कर दिया गया। वहां उनका अनेक बीमारियों का उपचार चल रहा था। रिहा होकर बोले गोगोई, आखिरकार सच की जीत हुई अदालत ने गुवाहाटी केंद्रीय कारागार को उनकी रिहाई का आदेश दिया था। रिहा होने के बाद राइजोर दल के प्रमुख ने कहा, ‘आखिरकार सच की जीत हुई, हालांकि मुझे सलाखों के पीछे रखने में कोई कसर नहीं छोड़ी गई।’ गोगोई पर सीएए प्रदर्शन को लेकर करीब 13 मामले दर्ज किए गए थे। 'जज ने न्यायपालिका की स्वतंत्रता में विश्वास को मजबूत किया'गोगोई ने फैसले को ऐतिहासिक बताते हुए कहा कि विशेष एनआईए जज प्रांजल दास ने न्यायपालिका की स्वतंत्रता को साबित किया है। उन्होंने कहा, ‘इससे पहले मुझे सलाखों के पीछे रखने के लिए कानून का इस्तेमाल किया गया था, लेकिन एनआईए जज ने एक निष्पक्ष फैसला सुनाकर मिसाल पेश की है और उन्होंने न्यायपालिका में लोगों के विश्वास को बहाल किया है।’ रिहा होने के बाद सैम स्टैफोर्ड के घर गए गोगोई गोगोई ने कहा, ‘उनके फैसले से एक मिसाल कायम होगी और उन लोगों को जेल से बाहर निकलने में मदद मिलेगी जो सीएए के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन करने या अनेक मुद्दों पर सरकार का विरोध करने के मामले में अब भी जेल में हैं।’ विधायक रिहा होने के बाद सबसे पहले सैम स्टैफोर्ड के गुवाहाटी के हाथीगांव स्थित घर गए और उन्हें ‘सीएए का प्रथम शहीद’ करार दिया। गोगोई ने स्टैफोर्ड के परिवार को कुछ धनराशि भी दी। 12 दिसंबर 2019 को गिरफ्तार किया गया था गोगोई को राज्य में संशोधित नागरिकता कानून विरोध-प्रदर्शनों के वक्त जोरहाट से 12 दिसंबर 2019 को गिरफ्तार किया गया था। बाद में उन्हें राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी (एनआईए) को सौंप दिया गया और हिंसक प्रदर्शनों में भूमिका और माओवादियों से संबंधों के आरोप में उन पर यूएपीए, 1967 के तहत केस दर्ज किया गया।
